    Programme Overview

    This programme aims to broaden your specialist knowledge previously gained at a professional level. Northampt’n's MSc Accounting and Finance (Top-up) seeks to extend and enhance the understanding and competence acquired through professional qualifications, enhancing learners' ability to think strategically about management and organizational change within accounting and finance. Pursuing this qualification will equip accounting and finance professionals with the necessary skills to undertake an independent research project.

    The programme provides an introduction to research, types of research methodology, formulating and planning a research project, data collection, analysis, and presentation of research findings based upon an actual industry-specific or corporate-focused topic.

    This programme is designed for qualified professional accountants to engage in research and fulfill a continuing professional development requirement.

    Course Structure

    The MSc Accounting and Finance program at the University of Northampton is split into two phases: Level 7 and MSc Top Up.

    During the Level 7 phase, students will study six subjects that cover a range of accounting & finance topics. Successful completion of these subjects will earn students either the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Accounting and Finance (120 credits) or the Qualifi Level 7 Diploma in Accounting and Finance (120 credits) qualification, depending on their chosen pathway.

    Once students have completed the Level 7 phase, they can proceed to the MSc Top Up phase. This phase involves the completion of a dissertation of 15,000 words. The MSc Top Up phase is worth 60 credits and is awarded by the University of Northampton.

    This flexible and modular structure allows students to tailor their studies to their individual needs and career goals, while ensuring that they receive a comprehensive education in the field of accounting and finance.

    Entry Requirements
    • Bachelor's Degree / Professional Qualification OR
    • 5 years in a Managerial / Executive Capacity in a reputed organisation with at least a Part Professional Qualification OR
    • 5 years as a Commissioned Officer in SL Army / Navy / Air Force / Police OR
    • Any other Qualification deemed equivalent to the above and recognised by the University.

    PHASE II- MSC TOP UP

    Top up your current Postgraduate in 6 months with a Master of Science (MSc) from the University of Northampton, UK.

    The MSc (top-up) program is designed to enable postgraduate diploma holder to achieve an Accredited MSc qualification in up to 6 months, so it is a lateral entry to new opportunities and enhanced career prospects. The course is structured to enhance the student’s analytical skills towards business and organizational issues and tackle them with a holistic approach. This program aims to develop a student’s ability to think strategically, recognize potential business opportunities and manage change more effectively.

    What you will study

    At this top-up stage, it holds 60-credit course. The course comprises of three modules.

    • Research proposal
    • Accounting & Finance Research Project

    First, students will prepare a research proposal of 1,500 words. After completing the dissertation, students will end up submitting a reflective paper of 15,000 words.

    The 'Accounting & Finance Research Project' guides you to delve into the key challenges that accounting and finance professionals encounter in the industry. The Research Methods component provides you with an introduction to research, types of research methodology, formulating and planning a research project, data collection, analysis, and presentation of research findings based on an actual industry-specific or corporate-focused topic.

    This programme is crafted for qualified professional accountants to actively engage in research and fulfill a continuing professional development requirement.

    Advanced Entry Pathways

    Advanced entry pathways are available for individuals who possess:

    • Experience at Executive Level, OR a Diploma/ Higher Diploma / HND / Part or full professional qualification from a recognized institution
    • Depending on experience and qualifications, advanced entry options are open for 18 months, 15 months, 13 months or 9 months to complete the degree.
