    Program Overview

The MA Strategic People Management and Human Resources (Top Up) program provides an excellent pathway for students who already hold a Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent to achieve a master’s level qualification. This program focuses on expanding strategic knowledge and competencies in key areas of People Management, including Human Resources, Learning and Development, and Organizational Development. With a curriculum designed to support career advancement, it equips professionals with the critical skills needed for leadership roles within organizations. This master’s-level qualification is awarded by the University of Wolverhampton and can be pursued through KIMT.

This course allows professionals in possession of a Postgraduate Diploma in either Human Resource Management or Human Resource Development to top-up to a masters award on successful completion of a Masters project module.

The Masters project module allows for the identification of an organisation-critical strategic people-related issue in any field of human resource management, human resource development or organizational development and for primary research to be carried out into the issue. The resulting project will not only allow the development and demonstration of a range of appropriate research skills, but also provides the organisation with an insight into the issue and practical recommendations to help address it. This links closely to the business and employability skills required at this level.

    Course Structure

The top-up programmes consist of a compulsory single module ‘MA Dissertation’ worth 60 credits. Effective leaders, managers, citizens and employees need to be capable of basing their decision-making on information and knowledge derived from research. The purpose of this programme is to deliver a practical and realistic solution to a HR strategic challenge, which in turn is supported by appropriate reference to theoretical and conceptual analysis.

The production of a piece of original work based on independent research is an essential part of study at Masters level. Students will utilise knowledge and skills covered in generic masters learning and research methods in the completion of this project.

For the award of a Masters degree, students must present a project demonstrating a range of intellectual and practical skills, using and synthesising information carrying out an application-oriented research project within a business and management context, and identifying the implications of the findings.

Professional managers need to be capable of basing their decision-making on information and knowledge derived from research, and so the skills acquired in the course of producing the project will contribute to the student’s effectiveness throughout his or her career. This module is intended primarily for students who have successfully completed a postgraduate course of study that incorporates the acquisition of masters learning skills and research methods. You will evidence this by producing a ‘Dissertation’ of 15,000-18,000 words.

The Dissertation is delivered and assessed by KIMT’s UK based academic team using virtual learning platform and direct support from your allocated supervisor from Wolverhampton.

The Dissertation could be completed in one academic term of 15 weeks or may be studied part-time over two terms.
