    Course Structure

    As a professional doctorate, the DBA consists of two stages: Stage 1 is a taught programme taken on a part-time basis over a two-year period, followed by Stage 2, a research programme which you should aim to complete in a further two-year period of study although the maximum period of study is seven years.

    Stage 1 consists of four taught modules taken over the first two years. You can choose to attend live classes at the UCLan Preston campus for two weeks per year, or to do them online. These modules provide the building blocks for your thesis.

    Stage 2 consists of primary research, based on your preceding work, over three years. You will produce a 60,000-word thesis, under supervision, which is examined in a viva voice.

    All relevant learning materials and resources will be provided through the UCLan online learning platform. Mentors will be assigned during stage I and the supervisory team at stage 2. Supervisory support is, therefore, an on-going process during and after the completion of the taught modules.

    • Locating Doctoral Research in Theory and Practice (40 credit)
    • The Reflexive Practitioner (20 credit)
    Stage 2 - Research Component
    • DBA Thesis (420 credits)

    The aim of these modules is to develop the student’s ability to design and conduct an investigation into live business. management or professional issue the outcomes of which make a significant contribution to both appropriate theory and professional knowledge and practice.

    Programme modality

    ALL students will have a personal tutor and supervisor from the University with full access to the online study platform and library.

    Year I — 2 modules (2 assignments of 5000 words)
    Year 2 — 2 modules (2 assignments of 5000 words)
    Years 3 and 4 — Research (Thesis, 85000 words)

    Year 3-4 can be taken on blended delivery study structure. Students can go the UK Campus to meet their professors and complete some modules. Otherwise, online option is still open if student could not go the UK Campus. Professor/Supervisor will be available for sessions online to completely guide each student on their Research progress.
